For the past decade, the asexual community has fought for recognition and respect. Our passion for life and our intimate relationships are just as strong as anyone else’s, we just don’t experience sexual attraction. We don’t choose to be asexual any more than anyone chooses to be straight. And we’re asexy as hell.
A recent video and print ad by Teva, makers of the medication known as “Plan B,” bashes asexual people and spreads dangerous misinformation about our community. In the ad, a woman who is worried about a contraception mishap vows that she will become “asexual, a-social, and a-everything” and proceeds to purge her apartment of everything from underwear to duct tape.
It is harmful to the asexual community to imply that asexuality is a choice and to reinforce the stereotype that all asexual people are anti-social and terrified of anything remotely sexual. I mean really, you should meet some of us.
We believe that this is an honest mistake. This ad is typical of the misconceptions that many people have about asexuality, and it is time that these misconceptions be corrected.
Please join us in asking the CEO of Teva to pull the ad and issue a formal apology by January 21st. Let the advertising world know that asexual bashing is unacceptable.

Though I’m kinky, I also identify as being asexual. And this is upsetting to read about ;o

Bitch to them! I already sent out a (fairly professional) complaint, and liked the FB page. But I hope tons of people...
I sent Teva a kind of angry letter yesterday when I first heard about this. I for one do not believe it was an honest...
Totally sent them a message on youtube and plan to send one to the company.
What the actual fuck
Liked it and shared with my friends.
This doesn’t anger me…but it does give people a false impression of the asexual community. …I liked that scarf.
This ad is just I don’t even
Ugh wtf. Methinks they mean ‘celibate’, as in, to not have sex. Asexuality is a valid sexual orientation not something...
